Fists of Fury

There's a blog (and a book) that I read (and have read) called City Comforts. I don't go there often - in fact, I have to admit with my life as busy as it is right now I don't visit many blogs very often. However, this afternoon I dropped by and read a bit.

This is what I missed:
"Oh for a measured conservative not constantly trying-on costumes."
I watch local governments quite a bit. I am particularly interested in how federal and provincial governments dance with/around/on top of/underneath local government. I watch George Bush in this respect as well.
It's all quite interesting (in a removed and cold sort of way); this New Orleans "tango".

Blog-roll Issues:

I really need to add more representative blogs to my blog-roll. Contrary to my earlier post, it is missing about 50% of the blogs that I read and includes about 75% that I don't.
Actually, I think I may just take it down all together. I was telling a friend of mine that I'm too much of a guilt ridden Catholic girl who-just-wants-everyone-to-like-her, to have a blog-roll. There are people I haven't read in months over there. I think about clicking the link, I really do, but I never get to it. There always too many other things to look at when I have the precious spare time to sit down at the computer for pleasure.

I was going to say there are also people over there who's blogs annoy the crap out of me, but that would be rude because everyone who reads this is reading with themselves in mind (or perhaps I'm the only self-absorbed who does this...) and I could potentially get a lot of people wondering if they annoy me and then get angry that I would think such a preposterously insane thing, and then just not care... that, or think I'm a bitch for saying such an annoying thing in the first place.

... I was going to say that....

And what about the people you know, but haven't linked to - are you expected to link to everyone you know who writes a weblog? Are you rude to not do so?
On that note, should you ask for permission before you post a link - especially if it's a personal, family orientated blog?
What's the etiquette on those emails requesting that you link to their blog and why do I find many of those so uncomfortably brazen?

Anyway....

While I take my gigantic foot out of my mouth...
Anyone read the news over in Bosnia lately?

No suprize to me about Bruce Lee. Ask D about Joe a guy we knew from that neck of the woods. The guy worshiped Lee.

You know what's weird? I've read some people forever (you included, actually) and forget to add them to my blogroll. I recently updated mine, and I added everyone who asked me to.

My philosophy is that the links remind me who likes to check in with me, so I visit them once in a while, too. Not all of them are regular reads, but I do check in. Also, it's nice to support other girls (or men, of course) that take the time to write, so I figure what the heck.

The only thing about blogrolls that I can't handle is when they turn into popularity lists or a roll call for special people, ya know what I mean?

But that's the great thing about having your own website - you can do whatever you want! I'm sure no one would take offense if a link-list wasn't something you wanted to maintain. After all, it does take a bit of time to keep up with.

Also I wouldn't DREAM of asking for a link from anyone, ever, and I think it's incredibly innappropriate to do so, though I know it's common practice for a lot of people.

I did actually wonder if you (and others) read ALL the blogs on that list. That could be a full time job! I worry about offending people too, but I only keep a short blog list of my every day favorites, for my own easy clicking convenience.

I think it's odd to ASK someone to link to you...

i never read you. ha! i am so funny! get it? i never read you, but here i am reading you?! oh lord.

i just want to concur with all you say re: blogrolls. AND i am catholic and oft riddled with guilt. so, there ya have it.

I get those requests for me to add folks to my blogroll but I just ignore them, especially once I check out their blog and it's stupid. The only way I'd consider it would be if they linked me on their blogroll (and their blogroll wasn't one of those mile long lists of every blog they've ever encountered). Personally, I'll link anyone who's kind enough to link me, even if I don't read their blog, but I feel weird about this because sometimes I really don't like the blog and don't want to have it on my blogroll and therefor kind of endorse and/or affiliate myself with it. I too struggle with the issue of whether I should delink blogs but unless the blog owner has never commented on my blog or hasn't linked to me as well, I generally don't. But then again, I really hesitate to add new blogs to my blogroll so the growth issue isn't terribly pressing -- and when I do add new blogs I evaluate whether there are others I can take off because really, I'd like my blog to remain meaningful to some extent...

I feel the same way. I hate that just about every blog I encounter all link to each other. which means everyone has the same blogroll. I guess it reminds me of Highschool and all the popular girls and always feeling left out of the click.

My blogroll is mostly my favorite reads and those that link to me, but I'm reconsiering the whole blogroll deal too. I may do away with it, too, but if anything it needs to be updated.

What's the point unless they ARE your favorites and not just a roll call of popularity.

It's your blog. It's your space. You do what you feel with it. If someone is only reading your blog to see themselves linked, they are taking up space that could be used better.

I'm so dim I have no idea how to even DO a blogroll...marvellous, gets me out of all kinds of trouble, I just say I have no idea how it'd done and if they have read my blog they know it must be true, I forget where I live and even my childrens' names on a regualr basis, how would i know about putting things in spaces and linking and all that complicates stuff? I can tell you how to be dim if you like, its quite handy sometimes.

I think it's bad etiquette to send someone an email asking them to link to you. I use my blogroll as a kind of scratch pad for blogs I intend to visit again. I 'weed' it every so often and remove the sites that I really never visit, or the blogs that I've decided I don't like much after all. There are blogs on there that I don't read very often, but I don't want to forget the url so I store it in my blogroll. I don't know why but I dislike bookmarking blogs. I don't think I have any in my Favourites.

I've been really busy lately and not feeling like spending my non-work time on the computer since I'm online so much already, but I like to know that when I'm ready to read other blogs I can find them.
